Insomnia + Chronic Pain

Improve sleep, build healthier routines, and reduce the cycle between insomnia and chronic pain.

Chronic Pain Makes Restorative Sleep Feel Out of Reach

When pain becomes persistent, sleep often becomes part of the problem. Pain can make it difficult to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake feeling refreshed. Poor sleep then increases pain sensitivity, creating a frustrating cycle that can be difficult to break.

This program begins by addressing the pain-sleep relationship using Empowered Relief®, a pain management intervention developed at Stanford University. Following this foundation, CBT-I helps improve the sleep patterns that often continue to fuel insomnia.

Why We Treat Pain First

Pain and insomnia commonly occur together.

When pain is poorly managed, it can become difficult to benefit fully from insomnia treatment. Learning skills to reduce the impact of pain often creates a stronger foundation for improving sleep.

This is why treatment begins with Empowered Relief® before moving into CBT-I.

Starting with Empowered Relief®

Empowered Relief® is an evidence-based pain management program developed at Stanford University that teaches practical skills for reducing the impact of chronic pain on daily life.

Week 1: Understanding Pain and Build Coping Skills
Week 2: Personalized Pain Management Plan

Then the 6-Week CBT-I Foundation

Once the pain modules are complete, treatment shifts to improving sleep.

Week 3: Understanding Insomnia
Week 4: Rebuild the Bed-Sleep Connection
Week 5: Build Sleep Drive
Week 6: Reduce Arousal and Hypervigilance
Week 7: Change Unhelpful Sleep Beliefs
Week 8: Maintain Long-Term Sleep Gains
